Greek Legal Translations

Despite countless so-called "legal terminology courses", quality in legal writing remains the proverbial road not taken. To paraphrase the words of Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman), "...when translators come to the crossroads, almost without fail, they  do not know what the right path is; without exception, they never know, and they never take the right path. You know why? Because it is too damn hard."

Despite what you may hear from prestigious or less well known schools and estemeed academics, most of the time translating legal texts is an extremely difficult task: it requires if not in-depth, at least considerable knowledge and on-hands experience dealing with two legal systems in a professionally acceptable manner. I'm not discussing if a translator can do that; I'm stating that for the very best of lawyers, it takes a bit over a lifetime to come to terms with their own legal system. The idea that your basic run of the mill "translator" can even aspire, in any way, shape or form, to try to come to terms with even a small fraction of what is required to accomplish that is for all intents and purposes an insult to the legal civilization of at least the two countries involved.

Our very own blend of legal, sociotechnical and business mantras allows us to overcome the formidable barrier, but it is a walk that can be walked by a few. The only thing even remotely random in this walk is the color of the writing on the wall: Recurrendum est ad extraordinarium quando non valet ordinarium.

Georgios has ranslated almost everything under the sun, from Codes of Conduct to extremely complex court documents, where quality is a sine qua non prerequsite of any lege artis client representation. His educational and professional background, combining business and financial knowledge an experience with formal linguistic (he holds a Diploma in Translation, IOK, UK) and legal qualifications (he holds a Bsc Law) has allowed him to successfully tackle projects possibly better suited to the usual army of lawyers.
